Fall/Thanksgiving 2011 Giveaway/Shareaway! (UPDATE)

In the spirit of the Thanksgiving season I wanted to share a pattern with one of my readers. I have been thinking about offering a pattern giveaway for some time now but have hesitated to do this since I don't have that many readers and I wasn't sure if anyone would even enter to win it. Well, I recently discovered the "Stats" application in blogger and found that people actually do read my blog. Granted I don't have tons of traffic or a large volume of readers but there are people out there reading what I have to say and as a thank you for your interest in my ramblings pertaining to sewing and harps I wanted to send one lucky reader a very nice vintage pattern. We are entering the season of Thanks & Giving, so here's the deal:

The Pattern

McCall's #7101, ca. 1963

This dress is perfect for the Fall and Winter months. Wouldn't it be lovely in a warm, fall appropriate fabric like velvet, corduroy, wool or even a silk taffeta in plaid?

McCall's #7101, ca. 1963

McCall's #7101
This is a Bust Size 35"-36" and all the pattern pieces are present and in good condition with the instruction sheet included.

The "Rules" or How to Win

Who is eligible: All readers of this blog, Sewly a Harpist. This contest is open to everyone including readers residing outside the US.

How to enter: Leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite fabric to work with is and why. Entry is open now through Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 5:00 PM PST (I felt I needed to make a cut off time for this and that way I could try and get the pattern out before the end of the week) and the winning post # will be chosen via random number generator. Please make sure to include your email if it is not linked through your profile so that I can contact you if you win.

I guess that is it...if you have any questions please let me know and Good Luck!

Cheers!

  1. What an adorable dress! I love working with cottons, they press well and are easy to handle :)

  2. That really is a super cute dress! I must be a bit dull and admit to preferring cottons as well. I really wish I could say silk, because I absolutely adore the garments I've managed to finish using it, but silk is pure horror to work with... No, I love getting my hands on a very old vintage set of cotton sheets or something of that sort, when the cotton is all soft and a bit flowy, but still strong. It makes such beautiful dresses.

  3. Cotton here too, but am so ready to step out of my cotton box to try something new. Have been away from my sewing machine way to long and need to get back into my sewing room. It's been used as a guest room, with actual guest in it.
    Love the give away pattern.

  4. That is actually a hard question and it depends on what I'm sewing. I love cotton for many items, but a good quality wool for winter skirts is always easy to work with.

  5. So, boring, but I would say a vintage, loosely woven cotton -- what I would use for this dress pattern.

  7. I'm sewing a skirt with wool crepe right now and loving it. There are some fabrics I like because they are so easy to sew and others I like because they are so rich and wearable. The wool crepe is wonderful on both counts.

  8. My favorite is vintage rayon. It's so silky and easy to work with and comes in the best print.

I love that pattern and I could make a really great fall dress out of it!

  9. Wool. It behaves so nicely, and I love the effect and warmth.

And I think I will buy a new machine that can handle the bulk of the feaviest.

  11. Oh My Goodness, this pattern is adorable! I love the long sleeves and POCKETS!!! Right now (it changes with the seasons, as I guess it should) I am loving working with wools or other heavier weight fabrics. I can imagine one of those dresses in a nice warm plaid! Thanks for posting!
